  • Abstract
    A modified detergent dialysis technique was used to assemble membrane structures containing the integral membrane receptor protein, rhodopsin, on alkylsilanated surface. Lipid and protein compositions and electrochemical capacitance measurements were consistent with a surface-bound bilayer structure incorporating the receptor protein. Rhodopsin incorporated into the surface-bound structures retained its native absorption spectra and its ability to activate enzymatic processes characteristic of visual excitation
