Abstract
This paper presents a comparison study on the different type of motors used in cooker hood applications. Single phase split capacitor induction motor is taken as a reference machine. Alternative motor types are investigated and analyzed in terms of cost, construction and efficiency. Candidate motors include single phase shaded pole induction and brushless DC motor types. The reference motor tested in laboratory and simulated in the finite element software. Shaded pole induction motor and permanent magnet brushless DC motor are also designed, modeled and analyzed by using finite element method. The exported results are compared to the reference motor by describing the main differences.
