Abstract
The purpose of the present paper is the development of a simple model that permits the calculation of the second order response and the nonlinear reflectance of an arbitrary centrosymmetric semi-infinite system, in terms of its linear response. The calculation involves serious approximations, but we believe it provides useful guidance to the size and the spectral shape of the second harmonic generation (SHG)
