Abstract
This paper provides an analytical approach to evaluate the performance of anticollision protocols in radiofrequency identification (RFID) systems. The analysis is given at protocol-level using such performance metrics as the number of state transitions and clock cycles involved in the protocols´ state diagrams, their power and energy dissipation. Discussion and comparison are based on worst-case scenario that represents the process of identifying the last tag when multiple tags are simultaneously available in the system. A new protocol is also proposed for performance improvement.
