Abstract
This paper proposes a comprehensive framework for quality of service (QoS) control mechanism using control theory. This framework can be used not only to evaluate different QoS architectures, but also provides a model for designing new mechanisms. The key step is to identify the fundamental components of a QoS capable architecture and the fundamental properties of such components. The principle of our model is the prediction of QoS impairment sources and suitable control procedures to remedy QoS according to the actual environment conditions. The paper presents various performance criteria and case studies for the model
