Abstract
This paper presents a novel reconfigurable approach implemented in a dual-band monopole antenna. An open stub with an adjustable electrical length defected ground structure is connected to the antenna feedline for achieving frequency agility. The proposed scheme shifts only the upper operating band while the lower band performance is almost unaffected. Measurement shows that the tuning range can be as wide as 27% for a 500/1000 MHz dual-band monopole antenna. The prototype is best suited for an application of partial discharge detection (fixed sensing band) with simultaneous reconfigurable wireless communication channels.
