Abstract
A comprehensive analysis of the up-conversion capability of mode-locked laser diodes as photonic oscillators is presented in the context of fiber-wireless links providing high-speed access in the 60 GHz band. The properties of photonic millimeter wave generation are studied and compared through simulation and experiment. Data transmission can be shown in an externally modulated link for BPSK, QPSK and 16QAM modulation formats and data rates up to 4.234 Gbps.
