Abstract
The paper shows how a single DC-DC converter can advantageously replace the conventional mechanical controllers to regulate, at the same time, speed and the electrical variables (either voltage, current or power). The rotation of the turbogenerator is kept within certain limits through modulation of the active power and using the inherent voltage characteristics of the asynchronous generators. The control is based on a current diversion from the main load to a secondary load using a very conventional DC-DC converter connected in parallel to the main load. Everything happens in such a way that the main load current becomes approximately independent of the generator current changes and vice-versa. The excess of current may be recovered in a secondary plant with large time constant such as heating, cooling, water irrigation, backpumping scheme or battery charging
