Abstract
The aim of this paper is to address the following problems that are becoming increasingly important to managers in food retail industries. Whether the guarantee of food safety is the key way to promote service level of food retail and enhance customer satisfaction? If yes, how to reinforce the food safety management? What are advantages of applying information technology in building credit system of food safety (CSFS)? How does CSFS influence customer satisfaction? Based on analyzing the basic principles, framework of CSFS and elucidating the role of food retailer, food enterprises and customers in CSFS respectively, the paper introduces how does CSFS integrate whole food supply chain to ensure food safety and what are the functions of CSFS in food safety management through information technology. Based on prior researches which focus on factors affecting customer satisfaction, the paper elaborates on the impacts of CSFS on these factors and its results, and also finds that CSFS based on information technology not only promote service level of food retail through ensuring food safety, but also enhance customer satisfaction.
