Abstract
This paper describes an application of a partial two-port calibration to explicit determination of complex permittivity and permeability using a network analyzer. Unlike the traditional transmission/reflection (TR) method that requires a full two-port calibration, the application to low-loss nonmagnetic materials exhibits no drop-outs. The application to low-loss magnetic materials shows similar drop-outs as the TR method does though the former is simpler due to the partial calibration. Experimental results illustrate the usefulness of the described procedure in materials characterization.
