Abstract
Micromachined pyrolyzed polymer electrode is evaluated as 18F- deposition and recovery electrode toward positron emission tomography (PET) application for the first time. Electrical separation of 18F- from H2 18O water has been studied for a preparation of a PET probe. A typical deposition and recovery cell of 18F- is illustrated in Fig. 1. We propose pyrolyzed polymer electrode instead of conventional bulk glassy carbon (GC) electrode in order to open the way for an integrated cell system with benefit of MEMS technology in replacement of bulk GC. It will be reported that pyrolyzed polymer electrode can deposit and recover 18F- (77% and 38% yield, respectively). Furthermore, we propose a composite of pyrolyzed polymer and GC particles to take advantage of both materials. This paper evaluates developed electrode for PET application and discuss its potential possibilities.
