Abstract
A widely used class of baseband pulses that satisfy the Nyquist criterion for eliminating intersymbol interference in narrowband communications corresponds to the standard raised cosine spectrum. An alternative pulse is generated using a network with maximally flat delay polynomial for the denominator of the transfer function. A procedure for placing the transmission zeros for equiripple response in the stopband is described. The generated pulse has negligible energy outside the main lobe, and better performance in the presence of jitter than the raised cosine pulse. An LC ladder circuit realization of the pulse shaping network is given.
