Abstract
For over three decades, the author has been working with graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) in a variety of courses, levels, and contexts. At the Frontiers In Education (FIE) conference 2000, the author reported the results of a longitudinal study of GTA teaching effectiveness in a freshmen Engineering Concepts course. In 2001, the Chair of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UVa proposed a new course for academically inclined graduate students on How to Teach. This paper describes the design of such a course, its goals, content and structure, resources, and teaching strategies
