Abstract
The calibration of a laser scanning sensor is reported. The mechanical inaccuracy of sensor construction may lead to an important systematic error. Calibration is necessary to identify and correct this error, and to achieve the expected accuracy. The sensor calibration includes four steps: modeling, measurement, identification, and correction. The error analysis and the building of the error model are presented, and the measuring and data gathering process is described. The method of simulated annealing is proposed for parameter identification. Its performance is shown. The sensor reading is corrected by the identified error model
