Abstract
A survey is presented of different current control practical solutions for permanent-magnet synchronous machines. The practical problems and limits for both permanent-magnet brushless DC motor (BDCM) and permanent-magnet sinusoidal synchronous motor (PMSM) control and for analog, hybrid, or fully digital control structures are discussed. It is shown how specific simulation tools can help the engineer to compare different strategies and tunings and thus to choose the best compromise for an application. The simulations developed for these studies, just like other realizations devoted to induction and DC machines, have also revealed the limits and drawbacks of the first version of the software.<>
