Abstract
Here we analyze in detail the concept of surface cloaking, showing that a patterned metasurface covering a given object may provide drastic scattering reduction, at the level of recently developed bulk metamaterials cloak, but with the advantage of thinner, lighter, cheaper and arguably simpler technology, and most significantly enhanced bandwidth of operation. In particular, it is shown that the currents induced on a passive metallic patterned surface may be tailored to drastically suppress the electromagnetic visibility of a given 1-D, 2-D or 3-D object, for applications spanning low-observability, camouflaging, non-invasive probing, imaging and low-interference communications.
