Abstract
The paper is based around the research and development of a novel image acquisition and data acquisition database called Visilog which provides a combination of time lapse video photography, high speed photography, and datalogging to allow post evaluation of high speed and low speed processes and events. The system has been designed to take advantage of the availability of large storage media, video systems and computational power that is now available on the desktop. We describe the development of the video and data interface, the database and the facilities that the system can provide. The system provides a powerful analytical tool which we demonstrate through a number of video and data sequences which show how the system can be used to record, compare and review events. These sequences are available as a separate CD from the authors. In conclusion, we provide a summary of the current capabilities of the system followed by an analysis of the future capabilities based on anticipated development in technology
