Abstract
Increasing numbers of different disasters have caused huge damages to many countries all over the world, and therefore it brings big challenges to the disaster management. Mapping technologies of cartography and GIS are often used to assist the disaster management, such as the visualization of the disaster situations, in order to analyze the affected results of disasters, efficiently deploy the accurate rescues and undertake the post-disaster reconstructions. However, traditional mapping technologies usually focus on the basic cartography requirements, but ignore many specific needs in the disaster management domain. This paper aims to describe the concerned requirements of maps for the disaster management, and to find out the key issues of mapping technologies in this domain. An example is provided to demonstrate the considering the mapping issues proposed in this paper.
