Abstract
Internet traffic is bursty and variable. The performance of teal-time application can be deteriorated by extra network delay. Additional delay is often caused by the competition for network resources from other traffic. Many approaches have been published to improve delay for real-time applications, however, some of them are not current flat-rate pricing compatible. A proportional alternative best effort (PABE) is proposed based on the work of published research. PABE provides low delay at the expense of less throughput, every packet is marked as either RT (real-time) or non-RT in best effort network. PABE is simple, different from differentiated or integrated services because neither RT nor non-RT packets receive better treatment. Game traffic serves as example and the experimental design presents game traffic collection and analysis, simulator techniques of game traffic and background traffic generation, result interpretation, network configuring, and scheduler implementation.
