Abstract
Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are widely applied in cities. License plate locating is the first step of license plate recognition (LPR) in ITS. We find an approach to license plate locating for images. First we preprocess images, including gray scale process and edge detection. Then we locate license plate region by line scan method based on vehicle edge characteristics. After that we judge the type of license plate using HSI model, which is transformed from RGB model. And then we correct the edge of license plate by using color characteristics. Experiment results show that this method is effective.
