Abstract
An expert system for the diagnosis and management of neonatal birth injuries has been developed for the use of general practitioners and obstetricians handling large number of deliveries. The system´s knowledge base was derived from a study conducted on 1100 consecutive full-term, mature, live neonates. The system was modeled to resemble the way the expert arrives at a diagnosis. It has 30 diagnoses and approximately 100 rules. The basic interface required to communicate with the user is incorporated into the program
