Abstract
The focus of this paper is on a particle that we refer to as the dumbbell that shows potential for ease of manufacturing and integration for certain planar structures as well as a large and easily adjustable refractive index. We have previously analyzed its dielectric properties using an electrostatic solver and shown how to modify the geometry to create isotropic material properties. Here we extend our analysis of the dumbbell particle to include its quasistatic magnetic properties, compare its properties to a similar lattice of cubes, and also investigate how geometric parameters effect the homogenized refractive index of the resulting metallodielectric material.
