Abstract
As CTO of Sun Microsystem, Inc.\´s Services business, Berg is seeing some significant shifts in the IT world. In this talk, he presents thought provoking themes that are driving the services business and concludes with the concept of "IT as a service." He asserts that the use and function of data centers as we know them today is changing as IT evolves to be a business asset, scaling technology to meet a customer\´s SLAs. Berg notes the following four trends in IT: *Communites as social software builders *Telemetry enabled innovation *Infrastructure Standards for operational maturity *Utility and Commodity Business Models He views IT as a service that will evolve into networked containers and notes the trends that will shape applications of the future in regard to privacy, trust, and security.
