Abstract
The ability to remotely monitor the well-being of individuals is fundamental to the well-being demonstrator being developed within the NWTM (Next Wave Technologies & Markets) Care in the Community Centre. A variety of new sensing methodologies are being developed and evaluated for the demonstrator and are the subject of this paper. This paper describes SenseNET, a low-cost sensor network designed to detect specific activities that are strong indicators of well-being, and to convey that data securely to approved users. To ensure that the embedded sensing methodologies are commercially viable the individual sensors have been specifically designed to be reliable, robust, easily deployable and cost effective. The design and capabilities of a selection of these sensors are discussed and the latest results of ongoing trials are presented.
