Abstract
Innovative designs, novelty and creative ideas reported in the international antenna literature, are highlighted under the headings of elements, travelling-wave arrays, apertures, arrays, measurements, and material developments. Manufacturing and operational aspects are noted and the driving forces identified while the extent to which antenna technology is mature, the role of research, and degrees of design freedom are central themes that are considered in some depth. Factors of influence and innovation likely to be experienced by 1994 are conjectured together with some speculation for the more distant future. The author concludes that antenna technology will remain a vibrant topic, rich in creative ideas as long as the system demands persist
