Abstract
Presents a brief description of the salient features of water vapour density at the surface and at different isobaric levels and integrated water vapour density over India and in the neighbourhood. Average values of such results can be used to predict path attenuation due to water vapour for Earth-space paths at different frequencies and elevation angles. An important character over India is the large diurnal variability in the refractivity profiles caused solely by dominance of high water vapour density and high temperatures
