Abstract
We present a novel method of capacitative loading to further reduce the resonant frequency of a miniaturized microstrip patch antenna operating in the 500 MHz range. The dimensions of the antenna are not affected, so this method has obvious advantages in miniaturization. The frequency reduction achieved is ~15%, independent of antenna material, and furthermore has no adverse effects in terms of performance. At present, the nature of this capacitative loading means that it is difficult to quantify the exact additional capacitance and thus the expected reduction in frequency
