Abstract
An automatic road-sign detection technique for the South Korean driving environment is presented. In automatic traffic-sign maintenance and visual driver assistance systems, the road-sign detection technique is one of the most important functions. In South Korea, there are three colors for road signs (blue, green, and brown) that are generally used for traffic signs in both urban and rural areas. A hybrid color space based segmentation technique is presented for classifying these three types of road signs. Hue and normalized RGB based color spaces are used to generate a proper hybrid color space for this application.
