Abstract
The basic code requirements for applying electric motors in hazardous areas are reviewed. The problems that an engineer encounters in attempting to establish that a given motor is suitable for the particular area are discussed. Some common misconceptions are explained and clarified. Responses to a questionnaire to motor manufacturers are presented
