Abstract
This paper addresses the aspects related with the design of a mobile satellite communications system. An optimum medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellite constellation has been selected. Link budget parameters are established for mobile and portable terminals. On board processing and inter-satellite routing aspects are addressed and multiple access protocols selected. Signalling strategies are described and results from simulations using BONeS and SatLab are presented
