Abstract
The subsynchronous oscillation phenomena of an induction motor fed from a series compensated feeder line is investigated. With the aid of the D-decomposition technique and eigenvalue analysis, induction motor instability due to both electrical and electromechanical resonance are determined for variations in the impedance of the feeder and the series capacitor compensator. The influence of connecting power resistors across the series capacitors to mitigate the oscillations is also investigated. Computer simulation results of the starting transient and step load change are show to validate the results of the small signal analysis.<>
