Abstract
Using databases of the Swiss Federal Railways, statistical analyses have been carried out on the expected lifetime of railway switches (points) and crossings. Different hypotheses on the wear of switches and crossings are tested, i.e. that the switch lifetime depends on the train traffic loads, the curvature or the angle. Only for the load this relationship could be proven
