Abstract
This work investigates the possibility of using a fast and effective approach to model silicon, gold coated nanowires, based on a quasi-static model of the single rods combined with Mawell-Garnett effective medium theory. The authors have compared this analytical model with numerical simulations on different geometries to understand its limits of applicability and also with measurements performed on gold coated-Si rod arrays. The model calculations are compared against experimental results to study the optical properties of arrays of Si-core/Au-shell nanorods with particular interest in localized and delocalized eigenmodes and their sensitivity to the finite size of the structures.
