Abstract
On November 10, 2009 a fault at the AC Itaipu transmission system led to a large scale blackout of the Brazilian Interconnected Power System (BIPS) with a 40% load loss. This event was recorded at outlet voltage by a synchronized phasor measurement prototype, the LVPMS, with PMUs (Phasor Measurement Units) installed in nine universities throughout Brazil. The recorded data contain relevant information on the events leading to the blackout and the BIPS restoration.
