  • Abstract
Stacked acoustic filters exhibiting less than 1-dB insertion loss corresponding to passband efficiencies as high as 86% have been demonstrated. The best results to date have been obtained with half-wavelength-thick ground planes, Ag-epoxy adhesive, and high-Q (hard) PZT (lead zirconate titanate) transducers. Results indicate that further improvements can be achieved through a combination of lower-loss materials and more accurate fabrication. Filter structures developed here have demonstrated high RF power handling capability on the order of 5 W/cm2 of transducer area. The prototype PZT-based stacked acoustic filters exhibit 30% RF bandwidth
