  • Abstract
Summary form only given. The evolutionary behavior of first and higher order weak discontinuities in a radiating magnetofluid has been examined. The fluid is assumed to be a neutral gas with infinite electrical conductivity and to be penetrated by a magnetic field normal to the propagation direction of the wave front /spl Sigma/ (across which the quantities are continuous, but their derivatives may undergo a finite jump). The effects of radiative transfer are treated by the use of a differential approximation for a grey gas, including effects of the radiative heat flux, pressure, and energy density. The first task is to compute the propagation velocities of the wave front /spl Sigma/ making use of the compatibility conditions found by Thomas. Two modes can be easily separated: the radiation-induced weak wave and the radiative magnetoacoustic weak wave. After this the basic equations are differentiated, jumps are taken across /spl Sigma/, and an equation is derived governing the amplitude of the first order magnetogasdynamic weak waves as they pass through a disturbed flow. then the author specializes the general results to waves entering a steady and uniform region, and discusses the features of the plane and cylindrical waves.
