Abstract
This paper gives an overview of various varactor types potentially suitable for new generation mobile communications. Microelectromechanical (MEMS) varactors, which are considered as good prospects, are described more in detail. Special attention is given to MEMS varactors with electrostatic drives which are the most widespread type. Important varactor characteristics are compared for different varactor types.
