Abstract
Data accessibility in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) remains an open issue. To prevent the deterioration of data accessibility, data caching and data replication are promising solutions. However, most existing studies on data accessibility in ad hoc networks use only data caching or data replication, but not both. This paper investigates the problem of data accessibility in mobile ad hoc networks by using jointly caching and replication. To this end, two caching models are proposed. The first one allows the mobile nodes to cooperatively share data items through a neighborhood caching table. The second combines the previous scheme and data replication on some key nodes. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed schemes over some existing caching strategies.
