  • Abstract
Ultra-wideband (UWB) impulse radios have the advantages of low transmission power consumption, coexistence with other services, high multiple-access capacity and fine timing resolution. However, the stringent channel is one of challenges to the UWB systems. The multi-symbol differential detection (MSDD) is proposed to provide high performance communication without explicit channel estimation, and becomes an attractive technology for UWB communications. In this paper, we propose an extended MSDD model, which fully exploits the information obtained from the tap-delay lines. To reduce the computational complexity, M-algorithm is applied to our model. Experiments show that our proposed model can significantly improve the BER performance at a low computational complexity.
