  • Abstract
To approach green communication effectively, simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) has been exploited in cooperative networks. Different from the conventional battery-free designs in SWIPT, an adaptive harvested power allocation is considered in this paper. In particular, the cooperative nodes obtain both information and power from signals transmitted from the source node via power splitting, then amplify-and-forward the information part to the destination, which is powered by the harvested energy from the current and previous transmissions. The remaining power is stored for future usage. The proposal is optimized for the system throughput maximization, and the formulated optimization problem is non-convex. We transform it into a dynamic programming problem with a subproblem requiring optimization embedded in it. A joint optimization algorithm is then proposed to solve the embedded subproblem by convex optimization techniques while simultaneously solving the overall problem using backward induction. Simulation results confirm its accuracy and show significant performance gains.
