Electronic design specification for exclusion of government banned and restricted materials

This paper addresses the design challenge of developing and marketing electronic products that are compliant with governmental regulations that ban or restrict the use of certain materials. Beyond government regulations, voluntary ecological initiatives present even more restrictions on material usage. These actions represent a business marketing problem that affects all electronics manufacturers and their suppliers as they sell their products globally. A proposed solution to the general problem of identifying regulated materials and controlling their use is presented later in the paper
