Abstract
For a successful energy management, it is vital to have an in depth and evident assessment of key drivers underlying the past development of energy consumption. In this paper we present an index decomposition analysis to assess the activity, structural and intensity effects responsible for the South African industrial energy consumption between 1978 and 2008.
