Abstract
Considerations about the essential results so far achieved through the use of information technology (IT) applied to teaching and the reasons that support such results, are discussed in detail. The main difficulties that prevent the success of IT applications are also analyzed, stressing the question of how to evaluate a particular application. Next, as a contribution, a systematic scheme to evaluate the performance of IT applications is proposed. This scheme focuses on how well IT facilitates the cognitive aspects.
