Abstract
This paper presents a stochastic based approach for the calculation of the equivalent continuous current (thermal ratings) of distributed generation systems´ power cables. In the proposed approach, the uncertainty of the operating mode (on or off) of each distributed generator and hence its contribution to the total cable current is modeled as a random current phasor. The equivalent continuous current of the power cable is then, estimated by representing the distributed generation system with its equivalent circuit model and running Monte Carlo simulation for large number of randomly operating DGs. The proposed approach is implemented in a typical case study and the results obtained are presented and discussed.
