Abstract
This paper presents a single-inductor dual-output (SIDO) boost converter operating adaptively in pseudo- continuous conduction mode (PCCM). By employing an on-line charge meter, the freewheel switching current of the converter is instantaneously adjusted based on load conditions so that conduction loss in the freewheel switch is minimized. Moreover, switching loss of the freewheel switch is also reduced by eliminating unnecessary switching actions. The converter was designed with a 130-nm CMOS process. The input voltage is 1.5 V and two outputs are regulated at 2.5 V and 1.8 V respectively, at a switching frequency of 500 kHz. The expectant specifications are successfully verified with fully transistor- based HSPICE simulations.
