Abstract
UTRA soft handover (SHO) algorithm is one of the most active and flexible techniques in WCDMA systems, which can be exploited to achieve higher QoS and better Radio Resource Management (RRM). In this paper a Smart SHO (SSHO) algorithm is proposed by modifying the conventional SHO algorithm used in UTRA networks to minimize the blocking and dropping probabilities (BP & DP). The proposed algorithm is compared with the conventional one in different mobility, traffic scenarios and different system topologies. The simulator results showed that the proposed algorithm can significantly decrease the BP and DP, and hence improve QoS, especially in the congestion and hotspot scenarios.
