Abstract
Summary form only given. We describe the efforts put in by a developing country like Malaysia on the adoption of workflow systems. Industrialized countries and developing countries alike are always trying to improve their business information systems in order to be successful and remain competitive. One of the innovations launched into the business world today which promises to achieve this objective is the introduction of workflow systems. We first look at the evolution of information systems, how workflow systems came into being and examine the importance and impact of workflow systems to organizations that have long utilized workflow systems. This is followed by a description of the business scenario in Malaysia. Next, we discuss briefly the advantages and disadvantages of using framework systems that are already available in the market from the Malaysian perspective. Finally we conclude with a proposal a case tool to develop our workflow system, which is more suitable for the local business processing needs.
