Abstract
Hutong, historical and cultural district, is the unique symbol of Beijing inner city. In the redeveloping process of Beijing inner city, how to conserve and manage Hutong district is a hot research domain which attracts most attentions. Without spatial information technology likes GIS, it is hard to conserve and manage Hutong district very efficiently. On the other hand, with Hutong management information system (HMIS) based on GIS, it is easy to improve the conservation mode and promote the management efficiency. According to the necessary of conservation and management, HMIS was designed and developed by using ArcEngine components, rational rose and Microsoft visual studio. Integrated the different types of GIS spatial information and other attributes information related to Hutong district, HMIS was used to manage the environmental factors of Hotong, such as to search the different attribute information, to show the basic facilities´ distribution and the general conservation situation of Hutong. At the same time, residents of Hutong district could participate in protecting and supervising Hutong historical and cultural district by means of the HMIS. By the application of HMIS, it is clear that, with the assistance of GIS, the workload of Hotong conservation and management is reduced obviously by means of promoting the efficiency of Hutong conservation and management. Because HMIS is not only helpful to do integrative analysis of Hutong district, but also helpful to work out the rational conservation and management mode for Beijing inner city.
