  • Abstract
In order to do well in their Engineering studies, students are required to achieve the associated lower-level learning objectives, which include problem-solving by performing calculations. From the author´s observation of a group of Civil and Construction Engineering (C&C) students at Curtin Sarawak, students do not seem to practice performing calculation-based problem-solving. Therefore, this study aims to understand the situation by identifying the C&C students´ learning practices for design or calculation - based problem solving in Curtin Sarawak. This is achieved through the use of a specially designed questionnaire and also through focus group interviews with groups of students. The collected information is reduced into a number of content units from the total responses. Major themes are identified and addressed in the focus group interviews.
