  • Abstract
    Mobile telephone is among the most popular consumer electronic devices in the modern world of today. This has resulted in rapid increase in number of mobile base stations to ensure good coverage and better quality of services, thus causing anxiety among members of the public regarding the potential health effects caused by the radiation produced the stations. This paper presents the assessment of the levels of microwave radiation from the base stations and its distribution patterns. A measurement protocol and site selection criteria were developed. It was found that the averaged base station radiation levels were generally below ICNIRP exposure limit for public with the total mobile radiations below 0.03% and the total radiation from all sources below 0.3%. Rooftop structures produced approximately 7 times higher mobile radiations than base stations on towers. There was no significant difference of the radiation produced by base stations of the three service providers
